柱上进样器非常适合高沸点和低沸点分析物的液体和气体分析。即使是极高温度的分析，也能通过简单、可重复的柱上进样轻松完成。
柱上进样器是 910、410 和 310 GC 主机的标准设备。
对于大多数使用大口径 0.53 毫米毛细管或 1/8 英寸填充柱的应用，柱上进样器将获得最佳结果。在大多数情况下，柱上进样器比加热进样器更简单且更便宜。
柱上进样器热质量低且体积小，确保注射器针头能够将液体样品很好地沉积在柱温箱内，这样随着柱温升高，即使是高沸点样品也能完全汽化。柱上进样技术将样品直接放入色谱柱内腔，色谱柱的惰性通常比玻璃进样衬管更高。与分流/不分流进样不同，柱上进样将整个样品体积放入色谱柱中，不存在沸点差异或其他不确定因素。样品从液滴开始逐渐挥发，比闪蒸后再冷凝的峰形更清晰。
柱上进样器由内置的电子压力控制器 (EPC) 提供载气，并通过内置的分子筛过滤器方便地过滤载气，只需轻触 GC 前控制面板上的开关即可进行烘烤。第二个 EPC 可用于操作连接到气体进样阀的色谱柱（或用于反吹），无需进样器接头。此外，还可将第二个进样器接头连接到第一个 EPC，用于两根色谱柱并联使用，共用相同的载气压力。
