热离子电离检测器 (TID) 的设计与 FID 和 NPD 类似。电加热热离子珠（TID 珠）的放置位置使色谱柱流出物接触热珠表面。含有NO2 （硝基）官能团的分析物分子，例如 TNT（三硝基甲苯），会发生催化表面化学反应。产生的离子被吸引到收集电极，经过放大后输出到数据系统。
TID 选择性极高，对大多数芳香烃和脂肪烃几乎无响应。该检测器对氯代酚（例如五氯苯酚 (PCP)）也有响应，但灵敏度略低。
该色谱图显示了 10ppm 爆炸物样品的分离。
为了获得最佳灵敏度，TID 需要空气作为运行环境。如果使用空气作为载气，则无需其他检测器气体。系统提供尾吹气，以便使用氮气或其他气体作为载气。TID 也可以在纯氮气环境下运行，其响应特性相似但不完全相同。
我们的爆炸物气相色谱仪上配备有 TID，经过美国环保署 (EPA) 环境技术验证 (ETV) 计划的测试，可用于测量土壤中的爆炸物。
